The 3rd Helensburgh Scouts are a part of the first Scout Troop formed in Helensburgh. Originally the group was known as the 1st Helensburgh Scout Group but, unfortunately, there was a falling-out among the leaders of the time which resulted in a schism. Neither of the newly formed groups would agree to the other retaining the coveted title of 1st Helensburgh. As there was a second group in existence by this time the first group to register took the title of 3rd. The other group decided to call themselves 1st Craigendoran, just to be different.
Lady Baden Powell visited the John Street Halls. We don't have a date, but we do have a photograph of the occasion, which was discovered in the Templeton Library, Helensburgh.
Today 3rd Helensburgh consists of a Beaver Colony, a Cub Section, a Scout Troop and a Venture Unit.
This photo was given to 3rd Helensburgh by Jamie Pate (4th from left in the front row). Jamie is an ex-Helensburgh cub and is now the webmaster for the 1st & 6th Ayrshire Sea Scouts [see links page]. | |||
